Picky Eater Zero Loves Hungry Hound Beer Grain Dog Treats

Disclosure - KCTCL was compensated with Hungry Hound Beer Grain Treats for Zero to try as samples. All opinions contained within this post are of our own opinions and beliefs.

In the little town of Conklin, NY there is a dog treat company that creates dog treats from recycled brewers grain. Don't let the name fool you, these awesome little treats do not contain any type of beer or alcohol, but do contain amazing goodness that your dog(s) are sure to love. Spent grain that is used in the beer brewing process is normally skimmed and thrown out, but why throw out something that contains nutritional benefits for dog(s)? Hungry Hound utilizes these spent grains by creating their dog treats. As the company states "These delicious, crunchy beer grain treats won't get your dog drunk - but they will get him buzzing with excitement". Very creative tagline, if  I do say so. Hungry Hound Beer Grain Dog Treats are "All Natural Crack for Dogs". I can definitely agree with that statement!

Zero puts her nose up to more treats than any dog I've ever had, but not these little pieces of dog crack. She absolutely loved them! I was actually sad when the bag was empty because after that I'm sure you can guess what happened; she snubbed the rest of the treats. Even though no local store in my area carries these treats, I can still order them online. To which I most certainly will be doing.

So more about these "all natural crack for dogs" beer grain dog treats by Hungry Hound. They are produced with all local ingredients and even utilize local breweries to get the recycled brewers grain that goes into the treats. You can find a list of brewers on their website here. Other ingredients include flour, peanut butter, fresh local eggs, and parsley for doggie fresh breath. All ingredients bought locally by Hungry Hound. Supporting of their local economy is what gives this small business a very classy edge. Local and good treats for dogs. Win and Win in my book!

You can learn more about Hungry Hound on their website, Facebook, and Twitter pages at the links below! Make sure to let them know that Kathy's Calm to Chaos Life and Zero sent you!

Zero's Winter Adventures - Destination SHED

To make a long story short the following will be simplified with videos and photos of Zero's latest winter adventures!

View from my back porch. Snow isn't very deep at this point, the dogs can freely run through the yard and walk around with no issues. See said shed - let's remember this shed as it's a focal point for this adventure.

It had snowed a little, OK a lot more than just a little it was more like a foot more. This deep snow didn't deter Zero one bit from her agenda while outside. After I had shoveled off the patio and a path along the entire back of the house Zero still decided these spots weren't good enough. She was determined to get into the back of the yard by aforementioned shed. See, her favorite potty spot is any place around this shed. In front of, on side of, or behind of as long as it's by the shed. She paced the back of the house and that patio just looking for the perfect opportunity to take the leap!

Below video is Zero's determination to get back there. She found the tiniest of tiny spots to leap into and over a three foot snow bank, around the dog house, and get along the fence - Destination - SHED!

Now that you've seen her determination to get through snow that is pretty much as high as half of her height let me bring into the adventure the next factor. Another snowfall of a good 6-7 inches, an 11 PM at night need to go potty, and Zero's new found "path to the shed". She got herself up through that snow bank, around the dog house and walked down that fence line. Problem being is she was now stuck back there in the deep snow with this look on her face like "are you coming to get me". Did I mention it was 11 PM at night?  There I found myself mumbling words I'd much rather not post while putting on my boots, heavy jacket, gloves, and going to get the snow shovel.  After getting 3/4 of the way back to her now creating a "doggie path" from the back porch to that, now landmark, shed she decided she could jump through deep snow!

See below - said path that was created at 11 PM at night. You can't even see the shed in the picture because it was pitch black outside!

Oh my girl Zero! How I obviously would do anything for you!

Now we have a doggie path that goes back to the favorite potty spot and Zero is happy to walk down it, and well... she runs up it from the shed to the back door. Below picture is from this past Saturday. As you can see the snow is getting deeper and deeper as the sides of the path are now higher than she is tall! Thank goodness for me and my shovel!

Saturday morning I had to work and came home from work during a clipper that dumped a quick foot of snow on us in approximately four hours.  I honestly don't know what was worse. Having to shovel my way into the driveway to get my car into it OR digging Zero out of the back of the yard..AGAIN!!  By now the path to the shed was no longer what she wanted. She wanted to go up along the very back of the fence. After I cleaned the newly fallen snow off the path one more time I then had to create a new path to go get to her(I'm feeling a little Ground Hog Day at this moment)... she got back there, turned around, but sure  as heck couldn't get back out!

I've dug my car out, my Mom's car out, my driveway out, my friend's cars out, a fire hydrant, a mailbox, and even a spot for my garbage can... I can honestly say I've never had to dig my dog out of the snow until now! I sit here thinking to myself that I should just write a book called The Adventures of Zero. It would surely be a best selling comedy. I get asked at work almost on a daily basis what did Zero get herself into now. They find it funny and amusing her daily adventures!

Lucy - Making the Decision To Not Be Selfish - Losing a Pet

My house is now eerie quiet. No sounds of panting, pacing, or the old lady's claws clicking across the tile. Yesterday I made a hard decision to put my 12 yr old Boxer Lucy to sleep.  She was old and she was sick. Heart problems, thyroid, and the latest diagnosis of pancreatitis. She was a fighter though she fought through it all and hung on through all of her issues. She had a good life here - spoiled rotten Boxer was exactly what my dogs are and Lucy was no exception. We let her have whole treats instead of the half ones Zero and Dylan get. She had bad teeth, yet we couldn't knock her out to clean her teeth as the chances of her coding on the table were very high due to her heart issues. So she lived on medications and antibiotics for years. She was a happy dog!

Eukanuba 3D DentaDefense Offers Optimal Health Benefits For Your Dog! - REVIEW

Are you aware that only 10% of dog owners brush their dog's teeth on a regular basis? Are you within that 90% that doesn't? Dogs of all breeds and sizes can accumulate tartar build up on their teeth which can lead to teeth and health issues as early as the age of 3! Eukanuba has introduced a product that helps your canine companion with their dental issues. I strive to find the very best for my Zero. She deserves it! She shows me unconditional love with her singing and tail wagging and I in return need to show her the same back. Dogs aren't capable of telling us when something is wrong, so it's our duty to be an offensive dog owner and eliminate an issue from happening, rather than be a defensive dog owner and deal with an issue when it does. Teeth issues plague dog owners daily and Eukanuba and the 3-D DentaDefense now offer dog owners some assistance with their dog's teeth.

Feed Your Dog The Very Best Natural Balance REVIEW & GIVEAWAY

Everyone knows I love and adore my dog Zero. I've also made it my mission to feed her the very best food and treats that I could possibly afford. After reading about ingredients in dry dog food it began to scare me. I've changed her food from one to the other to another and saw little to no results as far as energy and also saw a lot of weight gain. This is a dog that should be bouncing off the walls most the time she is awake because she is a Boxer. Boxers love to run, play, and just be goofy! Which has been evident based on some of the pictures I post. Thanks to a twitter party I was introduced to a dog food company that I otherwise knew very little about. I had seen their products and used treats here and there, but didn't have a vast amount of knowledge on their pet foods. But thanks to that twitter party I learned a lot about their pet foods and now here I am to pass on that knowledge to my followers about this company.

Hill's Science Diet Ideal Balance Adult Dog Food - REVIEW

I probably have one of the pickiest dogs around. I've never heard of or know of a dog that is more picky on what she will eat than Zero. If Zero doesn't like something she will spit it onto the ground and it will lay there until it gets picked up to be thrown out or until Dylan or Lucy snatch it off the floor. Zero also doesn't eat all her dog food at one time, she will eat a little then come back and eat some more. Just once I wanted to see her excited to actually get fed, enjoy eating her dry food, and maybe see an empty bowl. I believe that time has finally come. I've always heard the name Science Diet referred to as the highest quality dry dog food out there. I've seen it displayed in the Vet's office and have sat there, while waiting, watching people come in and purchase it also. Yes, you can buy Science Diet at your veterinarian's office, or at least I know you can at mine. I never really gave giving a try much thought, after all our dogs had been on the same brand food for years and years. It seemed to work, or was it really? Considering we have had to deal with putting a few dogs on a diet a few times perhaps the brand we are using isn't really working. I was presented with the opportunity to try the  NEW Hill's Science Diet Ideal Balance Adult Chicken and Brown Rice Dinner dry dog food, I took the opportunity to see if this high quality dry dog food would pass the test of my trio of picky eating dogs!

Just a few little facts about Hill's Science Diet - it is the #1 Choice of Veterinarians to feed their own pets - (ding ding ding! this should have been the bell ringer alone right there, but there is more), also comes with a 100% satisfaction guarantee or your money back, clinically proven antioxidants for healthy immune systems, and a visible difference in your pet in 30 days! Those factors all coupled together should have been my sign to at least see if my trio of picky eaters would enjoy it, but to be honest I was naive in the fact I had ignored all that I had read. I'm on a dog food mission. I want to know that my dogs are getting the very best dry food that I can possibly afford to feed them - all while finding a dry food that is indeed all natural. Again, all natural meaning the first ingredient isn't a meal or a dry powder of some protein. Along comes Science Diet's NEW Ideal Balance all natural dry dog food! There it was.. all natural from a dog food industry leader. I jumped on the BzzCampaign wagon quicker than a bolt of lightning to try the Chicken and Brown Rice Dinner! Upon receiving the bag the first thing I did was read the ingredients.. I was very impressed to read Chicken as the first ingredient (not chicken meal or chicken bi-products, but REAL chicken) followed by brown rice, whole grain wheat, cracked pearled barley, and soybean meal! The beginning of this introduction to Ideal Balance was already singing the praises of awesome just from reading the bag. It had yet to pass the test of Zero, my 4 yr old solid white purebred Boxer.

Caring for Zero

I have been up half the night with a sick dog. I think I've slept all of 1 1/2 hours before being woken up by Zero. She has that nasty hookah of a cough again.  She previously had caught kennel cough from some place (I think the ragg-a-muffin mut at dog school) and had to be rushed to the vet in the early AM on a Saturday morning in January or February, just to be loaded up with meds for a few weeks. Well it's that nasty cough that seems to be back on a smaller level. As I type this I am waiting for the Vet to get into their office at 8 AM. Not only does she have this cough but once she finally gets comfy enough to lay down and fall asleep she starts shaking like she is going into a seizure. This is not a fun night and not exactly how I expected my Friday morning to go, but it is what it is. I would stay up for days straight if it meant having to stay near my animals while they are sick. Matter of fact I don't think I slept a single night from the day Charity got hurt until six weeks after I had put her to sleep.

The look on poor Zero's face is just breaking my heart right now. She is laying behind me and every time I turn around to look at her I get that sad "help me Momma" face looking at me. She is so tired she is laying with her head stretched out into the air and you can see her eyes fighting to close. Then finally she lays her head down and falls asleep just to be followed by the shaking. It is such a struggle for her to get comfy right now and how this kills me to watch her like this.

Being a Responsible Dog Owner

Well I am experiencing first hand what it is like to live in an apartment complex and within this complex dogs are allowed. Most people clean up after their dogs, but there are those select few that refuse to clean up after their dogs.  This problem is making a problem bigger. My neighbors two apartments down are ground level and can not even open their windows because of the smell of dog dodo. The office is well aware of who the culprits that do not pick up the poo are and have sent letters out to them telling them if they are asked one more time to clean up after their dogs they will then be asked to get rid of their dogs or to move. This just makes me sick to my stomach that people do this. Not only is it disgusting, but it's unhealthy. Who wants to smell dog poop all the time or even step in it. Yes, we've had the unfortunate experience of stepping in someone's dog poop because they didn't pick it up. So this whole little experience is the inspiration behind this post. Owning a dog gives you responsibilities, not just to feed the dog, make sure it's healthy, help it when it's hurt, but also cleaning up after it. Why do people NOT feel the need to clean up after their dog(s)? Why do people believe they are exempt from the pooper scooper law in NY? Yes again there is a law in NY for picking up your poop. If you are caught by an officer of the law not picking up your dog's doodoo, guess what you get a nice ticket with a nice hefty fat fine attached to it.

My Zero The Escape Artist

Look at that face starring at itself in the mirror! How could you not just love that cute face. That face is of my dog Zero. Some of you have probably seen me tweet about her previously or even post twitpics in parties. Let me tell you that little angel of a mug is far from innocent! She is a people dog, she gets along better with people than with other dogs. Her and my other female boxer Lucy, do not get along at all. At one point they did, when the big male was still alive, but two days after he passed away Zero decided she wanted nothing to do with Lucy being in the house. After that point in time the girls have lived their lives separated by a baby gate of sorts. I used to live in a one floor home and it was rather easy to put a gate up in the middle of the house and one was in the front and one was in the back of the house, but now... well now I live in a two floor jobber and had to find a solution to the problem of keeping the girls apart.

Thursdays Thoughts

Today I am rather blah! Still, I've been having a bad week... actually it's been a bad month. July has never been the best month for me and that is still ringing true for 2011. Today I learned that a friend of mine has a sick dog. Her dog has thyroid Cancer and the vet hasn't given him much time to live. Hearing this brings back memories, memories of my Pudge whom I lost last year in March. I had raised Pudge, I watched him be born. He was so fat when he was born he looked like a sausage with 4 legs, so I called him Pudge. At 3 days old he knew his name already, so the name stuck. When Pudge was 3 I had lost his Mother. She had been diagnosed with Lymphocycoma Cancer. I learned a hard lesson, not to open up a dog that is sick. We had opted for a biopsy of her one lymph node and by opening her up it made her go faster. The night she died she still had the staples in her leg from doing the biopsy. She literally was catatonic and I had decided that it was time. She couldn't walk or move, this was a 70lb dog that now had to be carried out to the car. As I came back into the house to get her she got up, she actually got up and she walked out of the back door onto the porch and just looked around. Then she walked down the two stairs and gently got into the backseat of the car. This was a dog that couldn't walk or move all day long, the cancer had gotten into her spinal cord she was now almost paralyzed. But she got up and walked out the door and into the car.  Just as I had turned around to go back into the house and get my purse I heard a big deep breath... and then she was gone. Just like that in a split second she was gone.
